A reflection on the music in 2023’s movies
A few years ago I started the tradition of compiling a playlist that features music from all the newly released movies I saw during the year. Music in film is something I truly relish. This year I learned a movie can be terrible but have a great soundtrack (Saltburn). I was happy to see all the musical numbers in Barbie inspired by the 1950s and Demy musicals. If you haven’t seen any, I’d recommend starting with Gentleman Prefer Blondes and The Young Girls of Rochefort. There were also scores that really pushed the boundaries in atmosphere setting: The Zone of Interest and May December.
