A Playlist

Cinema reaches its highest powers when it’s the perfect union of image and sound. The multitude of ways this can be accomplished leaves me constantly inspired. Music plays a crucial role in this. A great score can elevate a work effortlessly while a known song can cement a pivotal scene in its audience’s psyche.

I am constantly listening to music from movies. I want to experience *that* scene over and over again. The quickest way for me to reach the same emotional state is by putting the song on repeat (Please don’t ask how many times I’ve listened to “Winner Takes it All” by ABBA). It almost immediately drops me into the scene that I am chasing.

I decided this year to compile a playlist of the music in this year’s movies. This playlist includes moments of a character’s emotional release, atmosphere setting, and magnificently staged musicals. I added songs as I saw each movie so it will continue to evolve a bit as I watch a few more.
